As a “Data Scientist”, I love all things data, statistics, machine learning, and even yes – AI. But I love getting s*** done even more (GSD!).
I have had the opportunity to work in a wide range of industries - media, government/non-profit, finance, and everything from a political polling firm to a world-renowned hedge fund - but most recently I have been working in EdTech. I have consulted on automated predictive modeling, customer segmentation, forecasting, visual analytics, and have even taught training classes.
Don’t let my experience fool you though. Like everyone in our industry, I suffer from inflated expectations, black box mystery, and undeserved respect. I believe Data Science should be digestible, and done in such a way that all walks of an organization can understand and buy in.
A while ago I started my journey by double majoring in Politics and Economics. Like many, I had no idea I would end up in a data-focused field where I would be coding. While working in politics, sports, and operations I realized that my true passion was using data technology to solve problems. I decided to go “all in”, attending the Institute for Advanced Analytics at North Carolina State University to complete my Masters in Analytics. More recently, I continued my education at the University of Pennsylvania, completing a Masters of Computer and Information Technology while working full time as a Sr. Director of Data Science.
When I am not working, I am enjoying time with my family, playing "old man" baseball, enjoying the great North Carolina outdoors, obsessing over custom keyboards, or rooting on one of our sports teams.
